Travel Tips: How do you stay connected with friends and family while traveling the world?

If you want to travel the world in 2013, you might be asking yourself how you’ll stay connected with friends, family and clients while you’re traveling the world. You could always use Skype, email or place a simple phone call. But those are boring, old-school ways to keep in touch. During our 2 month stay in Belize, we found an even BETTER way to stay connected to our friends and family back home.

A Sad, Lonely Birthday in Paradise

Staci's virtual birthday party...the cake was yummy!

Staci’s virtual birthday party…the cake was yummy!

A week before Staci’s 25th birthday, she realized that she was about to celebrate her saddest birthday yet. Although the setting was perfect…white sandy beach, warm tropical weather and delicious fruity cocktails, something was missing.

Her closest friends and family.

Turning 25 was a BIG deal for Staci, and she didn’t want to celebrate without her mom, sister, grandma and best friend. But they were all back in the states and couldn’t fly down to be with us in Belize.

So we had to get creative.

How we celebrated in Belize

All of Staci's closest friends and family were at her 25th (virtual) birthday party.

All of Staci’s closest friends and family were at her 25th (virtual) birthday party.

We hosted a virtual birthday party via Google Hangout. Thanks to the power of live streaming, Staci was able to celebrate her birthday with her mom & grandma in Kansas, best friend in Missouri and her sister & nieces in Dover all while we were enjoying ourselves in beautiful Belize. And the best part…

This was a real birthday party! With a birthday cake, hats, presents, sound effects and all!

It was one of Staci’s BEST birthday parties ever!

During your travels around the world, it’s easy to stay connected with friends and family all around the world; you just have to be a little creative. Google Hangouts, Facebook Video Chats and live streams on YouTube are great ways to get face-to-face contact with your friends, family and even clients if you’re running your business abroad.

By implementing this one travel tip, you will quickly become a cheap-travel pro and will soon be travelling the world as much as you want. Travel isn’t just for the rich. You can have the time of your life as a world traveler and not have to have a trust fund or a million dollar bank account. In fact, you can spend very little money and visit the wonders of the world you have always wanted to experience. The hard part? Deciding where to travel to first.

You only need one piece of advice to travel the world for cheap….travel like a local. Searching the web for travel deals and specials wastes your time and is way too frustrating of a way to travel the world. So stop wasting your time and start traveling.
